Introduction

If someone asked you what your life's purpose was, would you know the answer?

Do you feel an intense inner drive towards something in your life that you can't quite define? Do you feel like you are on the path you have always wanted to take? Or do you feel dissatisfied with your current job, unable to use your talents and pursue your passions? Is a little voice inside whispering to you that you are not living the life you really want to live?

You may be at a point in your life where you feel there is something more you are meant to do or achieve, but you are not quite sure what that might be. This is where the concept of "inner calling" comes in.

Inner calling is a term used to describe an innate sense of purpose and direction that resides within each of us.

But how do we discover our inner calling? And once we find it, how do we follow it?

Let's explore this concept in more detail.

Introduction to inner calling

What is the meaning of inner calling?

Living Your Purpose

Discovering your inner calling is about finding what you love to do, what you are good at, and what makes a difference to others, to the world, or simply to yourself.

Your calling is more than just a skill or a hobby. It's more than a job or a career; it's a combination of factors that overlap and add up to each other.

When you’re engaged in your calling, you enter a state of flow, where you focus so intensely that you barely notice the time passing and feel like you could go on forever. Instead of procrastinating, this intense focus helps you feel satisfaction and well-being, fully engaging in the present moment.

Your calling is not necessarily your job or your career, and it may not be what you do best. It can be a hobby or passion that brings you meaning and purpose. Your calling can also manifest itself at any stage of life, but it often reveals itself in childhood.

Your calling is unique to you and can vary from person to person. Some people feel called to help others and have a positive impact on their lives. Others feel called to devote their lives to their passion, like dedicated athletes who spend hours training. Whatever your calling, it aligns with your skills, talents and values, and helps you live a meaningful life.

Your true calling is about passion and dreams. It is something you are willing to devote your time and effort to, even if it is not what others have planned for you. Your calling is not usually or entirely a choice; it finds you and you decide whether or not to accept the call.

The Relationship Between Career and Calling

Many of us spend a large part of our lives working, and finding the right job can make a big difference in our happiness and fulfillment. It can give us the opportunity to use our unique talents and abilities to make a positive impact on the world. Conversely, having the wrong job can be extremely stressful and affect all aspects of our lives.

For some people, their career is their calling and they thrive by integrating their calling into their work. They feel a sense of purpose in their work, for example by teaching a subject they are passionate about.

For others, their calling is not necessarily their work. Their work may be just a job, a way to earn a living, unrelated to their larger purpose. Their career and calling may not align and they may find their purpose in volunteering or other activities outside of work, such as a hobby or raising a family.

While your true calling may not be your career, certain life events can trigger the realization of your passion. A personal tragedy, such as the death of a loved one, may prompt you to pursue a career in medicine, while the end of a relationship may lead you to start blogging about travel. Everyone's journey is different, and finding your true calling is a unique and personal process.

There is a key distinction between your "primary calling," which is following your value or belief system, and your "secondary callings," which include your work, which is just one of many roles you play in life. While some people consider their career to be their primary calling, others may have different roles in life that allow them to fulfill their purpose.

Finding your inner calling is a lifelong journey. Your work is not necessarily your most important calling, but it can be an important part of your overall purpose.

Finding Your True Calling for a More Fulfilling Life

Do you start your day with enthusiasm, knowing that you will spend it doing what you love? Do you end your day feeling satisfied that your work was meaningful and used your talents and passions? When your decisions about life and work are based on your gifts and passions, it creates a powerful sense of purpose that brings alignment, inner joy and flow to your life.

While not everyone finds their true calling, those who do often experience greater satisfaction and deeper meaning in their lives.

Discovering your true calling can lead to renewed motivation, energy and enthusiasm for your work or personal activities. You may also experience a greater sense of alignment between your values and your actions, leading to greater satisfaction and fulfillment in all aspects of your life.

The importance of finding your true calling lies in its profound impact on your well-being and fulfillment. When you are in tune with your passions and talents, you are more likely to experience a sense of purpose and joy in your daily life.

My journey to my inner calling

My search for my inner calling has been a process of self-discovery. I never had a specific passion or natural talent to which I wanted to dedicate my life. Instead, I knew what I didn't want: a career as my only purpose or a standard life path of finding a good job, getting a partner, having children and retiring. I felt called to explore an alternative path, driven by the question "Why not?" and a desire to find true happiness, rather than living according to society's expectations.

my journey to my inner calling

On my journey, I met many teachers through books, podcasts, workshops, and training. I had an insatiable hunger for knowledge - about myself - to better understand what brought me joy and fulfillment, and about the tools or teachings that would empower me to live according to my values.

Through this process, I discovered I loved sharing this knowledge with others and empowering them to live more fulfilling lives. Helping people change their perspectives and become the creators of the life they truly desire is incredibly rewarding for me. Some friends have even suggested that I become a life coach, although I'm not ready to take that step yet.

After much contemplation, I realized that my quest for knowledge was only a part of a larger picture, a way for me to discover my personal purpose. Knowing that I can make a positive impact on others - through this blog for example today, or even just a conversation, or maybe through a job tomorrow  -  is my inner calling.

I strive to be a catalyst for change, helping people develop self-awareness and empowering them to live at their fullest potential and thrive.

How to discover your true calling

Finding your inner calling is a process of self-discovery that involves identifying your interests, skills and values, and then making conscious decisions that align with your true calling. When you are in touch with these aspects of yourself, you are more likely to find something you love to do and are good at.

Let's dive in.

how to discover your inner calling

What brings you joy?

One way to begin this journey is to identify what brings you joy. Take time to reflect on the little things that increase your sense of well-being on a daily basis. These can be activities, people, or experiences that make you happy, fulfilled, and energized.

By defining these little things you love to do, you can begin to channel them into a career or find a way to incorporate them into your daily life.

To help you identify your calling, you can ask yourself a series of questions.

*Take notice of your interests and passions:
  1. What are the things that you look forward to doing during your free time?
  2. If you could spend your time doing anything, what would it be?
  3. What are the things that you feel most curious about?
  4. Which hobbies or interests have you pursued in the past, or would like to explore in the future?
  5. What are the things that you enjoy learning about, whether or not they are related to your job or formal education?
  6. What activities or topics do you enjoy discussing with others?
  7. What activities give you the most satisfaction and sense of accomplishment?
  8. When have you felt most inspired or creative in your life?
By being mindful of the moments in your daily life when you feel connected, joyful, expressive, loving and purposeful, you can begin to recognize the activities that bring you the most fulfillment, thereby enabling you to identify your inner calling.

In conclusion, finding your inner calling takes time, reflection and self-discovery. By identifying what brings you joy, aligning it with a greater purpose, and asking yourself thoughtful questions, you can begin to uncover your true calling.

What are your gifts?

The second approach to identifying your purpose is to recognize your natural talents and gifts. These abilities can give you an idea of what you are meant to do in this world. By paying close attention to your natural talents and gifts, you may be able to discover your true calling.

*Regarding your skills, ask yourself:
  1. What tasks or activities do you find easy to do? Or in which you excel?
  2. Have you received positive feedback or recognition for a specific skill or talent?
  3. Are there particular subjects or topics that you are naturally good at?
  4. Have you ever taken a skills or personality assessment test? What were the results?
  5. Have you ever been told that you have a talent or skill that you were not aware of?
  6. What skills or talents would you like to use more often?
  7. What skills or talents have you acquired through past experiences or training?
  8. Are there any skills or talents that you could teach to others?

Many of us have innate talents and gifts that we do not fully express. We may overlook them or use them so frequently and effortlessly that we take them for granted.

These gifts can be essential to a life full of energy and vitality, and naming them can be a key step in discovering your inner calling.

Even if you have a long list of things you are good at, not all of them will bring you joy and happiness.

A true gift is something you can give back to the world with ease and pleasure.

Your natural talents and gifts do not always translate directly into your inner calling, but they can still provide valuable insights into what you are passionate about and what fulfills you. By recognizing your gifts and using them to their fullest potential, you may be able to uncover your true purpose and calling in life.

Ultimately, few things are sadder than watching someone full of potential waste their life without using their gifts!

So take time to reflect on your talents and gifts, and think about how they can contribute to a life full of energy, vitality and purpose. In doing so, you may discover that your inner calling is closer than you think.

Conclusion

Discovering and engaging in your true calling can bring a profound sense of purpose and passion to your life, allowing you to feel that you have a unique mission on this planet. This involves a combination of natural gifts and an intense passion that motivates you to develop that talent throughout your life, despite the challenges and obstacles that may arise.

Not everyone discovers their true calling. Not having no true calling can also provide more freedom, adaptability, creativity, and comfort. Additionally, it's possible to have multiple callings, and the process of finding your true calling will differ from person to person. Being open to new experiences and continuously growing and developing as a person is crucial in discovering your true purpose in life.

Discovering your inner calling is a process that can bring great rewards. It can help you find a sense of purpose and meaning in your life, and lead to a greater sense of happiness and fulfillment.
The journey towards finding your true calling is a unique and personal process that can lead to a deeper understanding of yourself and your place in the world.
